What the Bible Is and What the Bible Is Not

What the Bible is and What the Bible is Not

Underwood Campus Pastor | Ernest Keplin

Let us first clear up what the Bible is not:

The Bible is not a good luck charm. I have run across many people who are not believers, but have used Scripture as good luck on jewelery that they wear, or even go as far as tattooing it to their body, as if it will bring them good luck or good fortune. I have even met people who have placed a Bible underneath their car seat, believing that it would prevent them from car crashes. I reiterate, the Bible is not meant to be a good luck charm.

The Bible is not a love letter. I know that may be a popular opinion, so to make my point more clear, the Bible is more than a love letter. Certainly, in the Bible, God conveys His love for humanity in giving Christ to be a sacrifice for our sins. However, it is so much more. Besides, there are stories of murder, adultry, war, greed, skin infection, and other things, like where to go to the bathroom - probably not what we would consider a conventional love letter.

Let us look at 2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NIV):

"All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work."

From this Scripture, we see that the Bible is meant to train us in righteousness and the good work of spreading the Gospel. The Bible is the window in which we see and begin to understand the character and love of Jesus Christ, through whom we can have relationship with God. If I could encourage you in any way today, it is to make your devotional time with God a top priority this week. I can promise you, it will change your life.
